Obituary for Clara Sue Bridges

Clara Sue Bridges entered heaven on February 21, 2021, from Hospice at Wendover, where she resided for the past 9 months. Following the untimely death of her father in 1978, Sue was a constant companion, co-worker and mutual care giver to her mother, Lillian Bridges, living with her at home until 2016, when they moved together to Carillon Assisted Living (now Elmcroft) in Shelby. She was a devoted member of Union Baptist Church, where she helped in the nursery for many years. Sue was happiest when she was worshiping in church, caring for children, and taking photos of family and friends. She always had a smile and a hug for everyone, ending most conversations by saying "I love you and I am praying for you." No one ever doubted those words. During recent months, she especially loved and appreciated her care givers at Elmcroft, her fellow residents there and more recently her "angels" at Hospice.

Sue was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Lillian Bridges and is survived by two brothers and sisters in law, James Bridges and wife Linda Deaton Bridges, Don Bridges and wife, Kathryn Bowling Bridges, nieces and nephews, Marina Bridges and Barry Bridges, of Charlotte, Laura Wease Hester and husband, Eric Hester of High Shoals, Jonathan Bridges and wife, Farah, of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Kate Bridges of Nashville, Tennessee, Forrest Bridges, of Dallas, Texas, and grand nieces and nephews, Layne Hester and Layton Hester, Layla Jean Bridges and James Amin Bridges.

A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, at 11:00 AM at Union Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Michael Shumate officiating.

Memorials may be made to Union Baptist Church, 3800 Polkville Road, Shelby, NC 28150 and to Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150.
