Obituary for Dennis C. Stamey
Dennis Clarence Stamey, 84, went to his Heavenly Home on the morning of Tuesday, August 2, 2022.
Born in Cleveland County on July 1, 1938, he was a son of the late John Evan Stamey and Ruby Oveda Poston Stamey. A lifelong resident of Waco, he was a 1956 graduate of Waco High School and long time member of Buffalo Baptist Church where he served on the deacon board, various committees, and taught Sunday School for most of his adult life.
Dennis loved his family, his friends and his church, but most of all loved his God. He enjoyed fishing, small engine repair and most of all, raising his famous Waco watermelons. The majority of his career was spent with Dover Textiles, where the majority of his 44 years were spent in supervision and management.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, John Evan Stamey, Jr. and sister, Mary Ann Stamey Canipe.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Shirley Goodman Stamey; two sons, Dennis Richard Stamey and wife Vickie, and Eric Welton Stamey all of Waco; four grandchildren, Kevin Clayton Stamey of Gastonia, Nicholas Chayce Stamey and wife, Dixie of Casar, Derek Evan Stamey and wife, Shirl of Lillington and Brent Richard Stamey of Fayetteville and two great grandchildren, Aria Raelynn Stamey of Lillington and Heidi Lynn Stamey of Casar.
Dennis also served as a foster father to a special young man, Cecil Houck of Shelby.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 6, 2022 from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm at Buffalo Baptist Church.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 2:30 pm at Buffalo Baptist Church with the Rev. Dustin Mace and Rev. Max Turner officiating.
The burial will follow the service in the Buffalo Baptist Church Cemetery.
