Obituary for Fitzhugh Lee McMurry Sr.

Fitzhugh Lee McMurry, Sr., of Belwood, passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 at his home.

Born in Cleveland County, on July 11, 1939, he was the son of the late Lee McMurry and Selma Miller McMurry. He was a farmer and a member of Kadesh United Methodist Church.

He is preceded in death by an infant brother and sister, Dwight and Nellie; a sister, Bernice McMurry Hoyle (Foy); brothers, Bob McMurry (Margaret), Rev. Joe McMurry (Beverly) and Jack McMurry.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of sixty years Judy McMurry ; daughters, Angie Payne (Jeff) and Audrey McMurry (Jason Eller); sons, Fitzhugh McMurry, Jr (Suzanne) and Bryon McMurry (Jenny); six grandchildren, Fitz McMurry III (Ashley), Nicholas Payne, Yancey McMurry, Isaac McMurry, Selma McMurry, and Lillian McMurry; and two great grandchildren, Emerson and Lyla McMurry. Also many loving nieces and nephews as well as cousins.

Fitzhugh had three loves in his life: family, friends and farming. He received Outstanding Farmer of the Year in 1970 by Upper Cleveland Jaycees and in 2016 Farmer of the Year by the Farm Bureau Cleveland County.

The family would like to thank all who loved and cared for Fitz during his illness. A special thanks to CenterWell nurses and Hospice nurses at Wendover for their excellent care.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church fellowship hall.

A graveside service will be held on Sunday, November 20, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Kadesh United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Brian Elwell officiating.
