Obituary for Hilda Sue Willis

Hilda Sue Willis, 84, of Belwood, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2021 at Elmcroft of Shelby.

Born in Cleveland County on September 4, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Marcus Lemuel Willis and Minnie Maybelle Downs Willis. She was retired from the NC Department of Public Safety - Division of Community Corrections and was a member of St. Peters United Methodist Church.

Hilda was a recipient of The Order of the Long Leaf Pine for forty-five years of service to the State of North Carolina. This award is among the most prestigious awards given by the Governor of North Carolina. It is for persons who have made significant contributions to the state and their communities through exceptional accomplishments. She received this award in April 2006 at her retirement.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers, Lamer "Joe", Norris "Bob", Jack and Cecil Willis and a niece Reena Anthony.

She is survived by one brother, Ken Willis of Belwood; and nieces and nephews Lisa Kincaid, Chris Smith, Jeanne Bailey, Todd Willis, Pat Willis, Tim Willis, Kim Elliott, Tammy Clark, and a number of great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

The memorial service will be Sunday, June 6, 2021 at 2:00PM at St. Peter's United Methodist Church with Rev. Brian Elwell officiating.
