Obituary for Mary Lou Wood (King)
Mary Lou King Smith Wood, 92, of Vale, went to meet her Lord on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at The Greens in Lincolnton.
In her early life she was saved, baptized, and joined Hull's Grove Baptist Church. She graduated from North Brook High School in 1948 and spent her whole life working in the health care field. She held positions in Aberdeen, Appalachian Hall in Asheville, Broughton and Western Carolina Center, where she retired in 1992. She received a CNA and LPN certificate during her work years and did private sitting after she retired. Her chosen field of work shows her great love for people. Miss Mary was a prayer warrior and loved her Lord and church family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Harold Smith; her second husband, Thurmond L. Wood; two sons, Gary Wayne Smith(died at birth) and Dean W. Smith(died in 2017) and two brothers, Kenneth D. King and Otis King, Jr.
Survivors include two brothers, Clyde Ellis King of Vale and Johnny King and wife, Brenda of Durham; four sisters, Sue K. Setzer, Ruby K. Webb, Bobbie Furtado Potter and Kathy K. Wilson and husband, Don all of Morganton and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 5, 2023 from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm at Hull's Grove Baptist Church.
The funeral service will be held on Sunday at 2:00 pm at Hull's Grove Baptist Church with Revs. Travis Elmore and Bobby Farmer officiating.
The burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hull's Grove Baptist Church, 6670 West Hwy 27, Vale, NC 28168.
