Phyllis Lattimore Blackburn Powers, 80, of Cherryville, NC passed away at home on Monday, April 4, 2022.
Born February 24, 1942 in Shelby, she was the youngest daughter of the late William Worth Lattimore and Ruby Pearl Hamrick Lattimore.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers, WF Lattimore and Ed Lattimore, and two sisters, Pearl Eubanks and Elizabeth Dedmond, husband Gene Blackburn, and husband Jimmy Powers.
Phyllis is survived by her son, Bob Blackburn and wife Cathy of Chester SC; her daughter, Carole Kersey and husband Mike of Cherryville NC; grandchildren Stephanie Smith and husband Derrick of Lancaster SC, Matthew Blackburn and fiancé Jenna Harris of Lancaster SC, Dani Wilson of Charlotte NC, and Olivia Wilson of Brooklyn, NY; great grandchildren Andrew Smith, Chase Blackburn, Luke Smith, Maddie Blackburn, and Bryce Baxley all of Lancaster, SC; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Phyllis was a long-time member of First Presbyterian Church in Cherryville and was active in the choir, the Sally Quinn Sunday School Class, Presbyterian Women, the Friendship Club, Presbyterian Pilgrimage Group, and served on the session. She was honored as Elder Emeritus in 2019.
After retiring from Edward Jones in 2006 as office administrator, Phyllis served as a caregiver in her home. She was a nurturer to many and will be missed by all who knew her well.
The family is grateful to the team of caregivers who have provided love and support, especially Harly Hodge.
A celebration of Phyllis’ life will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Cherryville on Thursday, April 7 at 2:00pm with Rev. Dr. Bill Lowe officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 1:00 -2:00pm. Burial will follow in New Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Lawndale.
