Obituary for Wayne Morris

Robert Wayne Morris, 82, of Casar, went to his Heavenly home on Tuesday, October 11, 2022 at Hospice at Wendover, Shelby, after a long six year battle with kidney cancer.

He was born in Burke County, on July 21, 1940, to the late James Howard Morris and Ruth Bridges Morris. He lived in Morganton until the age of three, when his family moved to the Moriah community. He would attend Moriah School and graduated from Casar High School in 1958. After he completed his education he began work with Ed Fortenberry followed by working for Stamey Stores, Polkville. He retired from PPG Industries as a lab tech after forty and a half years of service. While at PPG he also worked as an EMT.

After retirement he volunteered at Cleveland Regional Medical Center . He enjoyed gardening, wood working, collecting knives, camping and fishing trips with the men of the church to the Toe River. He was an active member of Morris Memorial Baptist Church until his health began to decline, having served as a Sunday School Teacher, sang in the choir church clerk, building committee, and sound technician.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Rev. Thomas and Jean Bagwell Taylor; a granddaughter, Ashley Lutz; great granddaughter, McKenzie Morris and sister, Patsy Cook.

He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-one years, Helen Taylor Morris; son, Keith Morris and wife Robin of Moriah; Lisa Lutz and husband Chris of Moriah; a sister, Shirley Blanton and husband, Douglas of Moriah; four grandchildren, Devin Morris and wife Amanda of Casar; Corey Lutz of Sumter, SC, Lacie Morris of Casar, Emily Hudson and husband Josh of Shelby; three great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Kinley, and Clayton Morris; aunt, Jenny Lou Roper of Morganton; uncle, RL Morris of Morganton and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses for all the love and care they provided during Wayne's six years of fighting cancer.

The family will greet friends immediately following graveside committal. At other times the family will be at the home of Chris and Lisa Lutz, 508 Mt. Zion Church Road, Casar, NC 28020.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, October 16, 2022 at 3:00 pm at Morris Memorial Baptist Church with the Dr. Chris Emory, Rev. Bill Jones, Rev. Dean Cook, and Rev. Will Cox officiating. Mr. Morris will lie in state thirty minutes before the service in the church sanctuary.

The burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
