Obituary for Roger L. Stroup

Roger Leon Stroup, 76, of Waco, passed away on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Hospice at Wendover, Shelby.

Born in Cleveland County on December 10, 1945, he was a son of the late Arthur Boyd Stroup and Gladys Sellers Stroup. He was owner and operator of Stroup Farms and a member of Waco Baptist Church. Roger and his family were recognized as the Farm Family of the Year 2014.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by two brothers, Bruce Stroup and Gary Stroup and a sister, Nancy Stroup.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-five years, Melinda Phillips Stroup; one son, Ted Stroup and wife Sandy of Waco; two daughters, Kimberly Lee and husband Robert and Amanda Vess and husband Darrell all of Waco; two sisters, Brenda Rutherford and husband Bob of Mocksville and Sara Zissimopulos and husband Guy of Tarpon Springs, FL; six grandchildren, Jonathan Stroup and wife Shonda, Jennifer Stroup and Colt Ratchford, Jessica Allen and husband Chris, Hunter Mills and husband Dustin, Jacey Stroup and Roger Harris Vess; and six great grandchildren, Cooper, Waylon, Addy, Ceceilia, Sophia, and Kayden.

The family will receive friends on Friday, September 2, 2022, at 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home.

The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 3, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Waco Baptist Church with the Dr. Harold Fite and Dr. Rit Varriale officiating.

The burial will follow the service in the Capernaum Cemetery.
