Ruth Newton Green, 75, of Lawndale, passed away on Saturday, May 22, 2021 at Hospice at Wendover, Shelby.

Born in Cleveland County, on May 10, 1946, she was a daughter of the late Hazel Newton and Mazell Ward Newton. Ruth was a true pastors wife supporting her husband and working in various positions in the churches that he pastored. She was retired from Cleveland Vocational Industries and Harvest Works where she taught life skills to the mentally disabled. She was also a member of Lawndale Baptist Church

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. James Ray Green; two sisters, Kathy Newton Parker and Faye Newton Parker; and a sister-in-law, Janice Newton.

She is survived by her son, Jimmy Green of Lawndale; two grandsons, Zach Green and wife, Karlie of Green Mountain and Dr. Alex Green of Ashville; two great grandchildren, Jasper and Kennedy Green; brother, Arnold Newton and wife, Anne of Shelby; and sister, Jo Nell McNeilly and husband, Jack of Lawndale.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 from 1:00 Pm to 2:00 PM at Lawndale Baptist Church.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 25, 2021 at 2:00 PM at Lawndale Baptist Church with the Rev. Jim Kilby officiating.

A private burial service will follow in the Rose Hill Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Cleveland County, 951 Wendover Heights Drive, Shelby, NC 28150 or to Lawndale Baptist Church, PO Box 126, Lawndale, NC 28090.

This lady was very special. I enjoyed talking with her and just being her friend. She was a special lady. I will always cherish those memories. To the family, y'all will be in the my thoughts and prayers in the days to come. She was a jewel.
