Obituary for Shirley Bowen Wright

Shirley Christeen Bowen Wright, 84, of Lawndale, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 at Hospice at Wendover.

Born in Cleveland County on June 25, 1938, she was born the last child of the late Broadus B. Bowen and Fannie May Ledford Bowen.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Harvey B. Bowen Sr, two sisters, Hazel Bowen McCraw and Elva May Bowen Rollins and niece Anne Bowen Goss.

Survivors include her husband, Buddy Dean Wright; one brother, Elbert "Buddy" Bowen; four nephews, Harvey B. Bowen Jr. (Kathy), Philip Bowen (Jennifer), Barry Arrowood (Jessica), Mike Goss; seven great nieces and nephews, Jennifer Scism (Tim), Stephanie Bowen, Elizabeth Goss, Troy Goss (Jana), Zachary and William Bowen, Brinley Arrowood; eight great great nieces and nephews, Katie Huffstetler (Cody), Lauren Scism, Madison and Jordyn Shank, Troy Jr., Tyson, and Tinley Goss; two great great great nephews, Oaklyn Ropp and Taylen Bowen.

Shirley enjoyed a full life living in the Double Shoals community and attending Piedmont Highschool and graduating in the beloved Class of 1956, before continuing her education and having a long and rewarding career with The Department of Social Services in Cleveland County. After retiring from Social Services as a supervisor, she worked with her husband at Farm Supply Company in Shelby and enjoyed getting to know many of the farmers in the area. In 2005, she began playing rook with the Piedmont Rook Club, line dancing with The Carolina Dancers, and directing and singing with The Carolina Singers at the Senior Center. Shirley’s family was a very important part of her life. All of these activities brought much happiness to her life as she continued to spread joy to other people. She enjoyed seeing the humor in most situations.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 am to Noon on Saturday, August 27, 2022 at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home in Fallston.

The funeral service will be held at Noon at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jimmy Black officiating.

The burial will follow the service in the Rose Hill Memorial Park.
