Obituary for Susan Haag Stone
Susan Irene Haag Stone passed away peacefully on February 6th, 2021, with her loving husband by her side.
Born on March 21st, 1944, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Susan was the daughter of Herbert F. Haag and Mary Sue Davis Haag.
Susan attended Myers Park High School, Ashley Hall Academy in Charleston, South Carolina and graduated from Howey Academy in Florida. She also received a degree from Kings Business College.
Susan married the love of her life on a snowy Valentine's Day in 1965. Together, they devoted 56 loving years to each other. They enjoyed many adventures, traveling the world, cultivating their passion for boating, snow skiing, and touching many lives along the way.
Susan enjoyed a successful career in real estate title insurance in Atlanta, and in the retail business in Charlotte, both of which served her well. She was also instrumental in helping her husband in his business endeavors.
She was a member of Avondale Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, and a 58-year member of the Mizpah Chapter The Order of the Eastern Star and Amaranth. Susan was also one of the original members of the Charlotte Ski Bees.
While she was a native Charlottean, Susan always cherished her Cleveland County roots, and childhood memories of visiting her grandparents, Forrest and Nettie Davis, on the river in Lawndale, as well as trips to the area throughout her life.
Known for her warm personality, and glowing red hair, Susan exemplified elegance. She was a true Southern lady with a flair for fashion and beautiful decor, and had a style that reflected her sparkle and zest for life.
Susan was truly one of God's miracles, having recovered from a long illness that struck her in the prime of her life, she was an inspiration to all who were blessed to know her. She always had a smile and a kind word, and a vibrant spirit that lit up a room. She loved everyone and loved deeply, and treasured every moment that life had to offer, especially time spent with her adoring husband, beloved mother, devoted brother and his family, as well as her extended family. She also had a deep affection for animals, especially her poodles, and other dogs that she nurtured through the years.
Susan was preceded in death by her father, Herbert F. Haag.
She is survived by her husband, Edward (Buddy) Stone. Additionally, her mother, Mary Sue Davis Haag of Lake Wylie, S.C.; her brother, Frank Haag and wife Leslie of Carmel, Indiana; niece, Jennifer H. Lulfs and husband Alan of Greenwood, Indiana; nephew, Scott Haag and wife Kelly of Carmel, Indiana; And two great nieces and four great nephews, all of Indiana. Sister-in-law Joann S. King and husband Joe, of Waxhaw, N.C.; niece, Courtney King, of Waxhaw, N.C.
Susan shared a lifelong gift of sisterhood with two special aunts, Sarah Boggs of Fallston, and Dorothy Hoyle of Shelby. That unique sisterly devotion was shared with her sisters-in-law, Leslie Haag and Joann King. She had a very special bond with her first cousin, MaeBeth Boggs, whom she affectionately called, "her little sister."
Susan is also survived by many cousins and friends who will miss her dearly.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to her exceptional caregivers through the years, both at home, and at Mecklenburg Health & Rehabilitation Center.
Due to Covid-19, the family has chosen to have a Celebration of Life service at a safer date and time.
