Obituary

Earnest Andrew Johnson, 85, of Landry Drive, Kings Mountain, passed away on Monday, May 3, 2021 at his residence.

Born in Cleveland County, NC on June 22, 1935, he was the son of the late Erastus Velector Johnson and Vernie Irene Canipe Johnson. He was co-owner of Creative Outdoor Advertising and was a member of Eastside Baptist Church. Mr. Johnson served as Chief of the Cleveland County Sheriffs Office Reserve for many years and was past president of the Cleveland County Law Enforcement Association. He served in the US Army.

He also loved singing in Gospel Quartet, camping, working in his yard, and mostly loving and taking care of his family and community.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Bethany Johnson Preston and Joshua Ayers; a great-grandchild, Karis Barnhill and two brothers, Quinton Johnson and Jerry Johnson.

Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Peggy Padgett Johnson; daughter, Benita Johnson of Kings Mountain; son, Andrew Johnson and wife, Karla of Shelby; daughter, Tiffany Johnson Wright and husband, Neil of Kings Mountain, Tracie Johnson Sawyers and husband, Scott of Denver and Caryn Johnson White and husband, Brent of Kings Mountain; a brother, Kenneth Johnson of Shelby; two sisters, Clara Johnson of Charlotte and Marie Odom of Shelby; seven grandchildren, Kendra Johnson, Kacey Phillips, Ethan Sawyers, Drew Johnson, Luke White, Arden Barnhill and Kyle Johnson and great-grandchildren, Bradyen, Trevor and Kadence Preston, Covington and Caryngton Barnhill and soon to join, Blakely Sawyers.

Join us as we gather together to remember our daddy's life. Visitation will be held from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home.

A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday at Stamey-Tysinger Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dale Byrd officiating.

The burial will follow the service in the Rose Hill Memorial Park.

The service will stream on Peggy Johnson's Facebook later that day for those who are not able to attend.

The family request everyone who is attending the services, please wear a mask.

Memorials may be made to Eastside Baptist Church, 1165 Wyke Road, Shelby, NC 28150.

Prayers for the peace and love of God to cover the family. Fond neighborhood memories of Earnest always being a fun-loving and nice guy!! Enjoyed working with him at Bost Bakery and sharing jokes with him! He is now singing on those streets of gold!!
